The Dodge Brothers, Horace and John, created Dodge in 1904. The Detroit-based firm first produced bicycles, but after a few years, it changed its focus and became a machine factory that supplied engines, axles, and other gear to the budding automotive industry. The brothers’ early success working with Henry Ford inspired them to leave their jobs and go out independently, producing their first car in 1914 under the Dodge name. By 1916, Dodge automobiles were among the best-selling in the country.

Both Dodge brothers passed away in 1920 due to an influenza epidemic. After the brothers’ passing, the business was sold to Dillon, Reed & Co., but 1928, the Chrysler organization bought it. Since then, the company has been operating there, developing numerous technologies that are now considered industry standards, such as valve seat inserts, helical-cut transmission gears, and coil-spring front suspension systems.

Dodge has a reputation in the contemporary period for producing fast cars and attractive, rigid pickup trucks. Family vehicles have been just as essential to the company even though they are less well-known; the Caravan, for instance, invented the minivan market.

After being acquired by Fiat in 2014, the new Fiat-Chrysler Alliance gave Dodge executives a lot of freedom, and the brand once again became known as a supplier of high-performing and affordably priced family vehicles.

Today, Dodge produces roomy, valuable vehicles and SUVs with a strong touch of sportiness. The automaker’s in-house tuner, SRT, has consumers covered with vehicles that will blast the doors off most cars on the road for those who still want a strong dose of power.
