The Ford Cortina, a vehicle that Hyundai produced and marketed under license from the Ford Motor Company, served as the Hyundai Motor Company’s initial excursion into automobile production when it was founded in 1967 as a spinoff of the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company. Hyundai opted to create a car internally and started searching abroad for individuals who could aid in navigating the design, engineering, and marketing processes, confident in the lessons learned through its agreement with Ford.

The business’s first employee was George Turnbull, a manager stolen from British Leyland. Turnbull recruited numerous acquaintances, including a chassis designer from the prestigious British Racing Motors company. Giorgio Giugiaro of ItalDesign handled the body, and the Hyundai Pony was created in 1975. Despite starting to export vehicles in the early 1980s, Hyundai didn’t join the American market until 1985.

The firm, formally formed as Hyundai Motor America, focused on selling to first-time auto purchasers. Hyundai introduced Excel as its debut product in 1986, and by the end of the year, 168,882 vehicles had been sold. This momentum spurred Hyundai to become the dominant force it is today.

When Hyundai and Kia united in 1998, they did so with two distinct identities. Hyundai would go toward luxury products and discerning customers, while Kia would be the lively, athletic, and young brand. The brand has matured; in addition to developing a stand-alone luxury brand named Genesis, Hyundai has created an impressively broad portfolio of cars, ranging from the three-row Palisade to the three-door Veloster N hot hatch to the all-electric Kona small crossover.

Although the quality, design, and execution of the cars have significantly improved over the years, their cost and features still make them among the most incredible deals available. Hyundai offers exceptional safety, a top-notch warranty, and cutting-edge technology on various family-friendly vehicles.
