The second generation of the Audi A5 arrived in 2018 with a cleaner exterior design, a more advanced cabin, and a broader range of body styles. Inside, the second-generation A5 adopted Audi’s updated infotainment systems, including the high-resolution Virtual Cockpit digital gauge cluster. Driver-assistance features expanded during this generation, with more available safety technologies such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping functions, and enhanced parking systems. Audi also increased power output for the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, bringing it to 252 horsepower at launch, later updated to the current outputs used in today’s 40 TFSI and 45 TFSI variants.

The second generation continues today with ongoing refinements to technology, lighting design, cabin materials, and safety systems, making it one of the more polished offerings in the luxury coupe and liftback market.

First Generation (2008–2017)

The first-generation Audi A5 debuted in 2008 as a stylish, performance-focused sports coupe built on Audi’s B8 platform. At launch, it offered two V6 engines: a 3.2-liter FSI producing 265 horsepower, and a 2.7-liter TSI delivering 190 horsepower (Europe-focused markets). These engines helped establish the A5 as a refined alternative to the BMW 3 Series coupe, emphasizing smooth power delivery and balanced handling.

In 2009, Audi introduced the A5 Cabriolet, adding open-air driving to the lineup for the 2010 model year. Over the following years, Audi gradually expanded the car’s features with Bluetooth connectivity, upgraded driver-assistance systems, and refreshed interior materials. The model evolved steadily until the arrival of the second generation, maintaining a reputation for elegant design and solid build quality.
