About Subaru
Subaru was a component of the Fuji Heavy Industries conglomerate, which began in 1915 and was composed of several businesses, including an aircraft maker, an engine and chassis manufacturer, and a wandoachbuilder. Subaru was officially created in Japan in 1953. Fuji Heavy Industries’ CEO, Kenji Kita, decided to expand into the vehicle industry and gave the business the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster, giving rise to its six-star imprinted insignia.
The 1000 model and the company’s first boxer engine, now a standard feature on all Subaru vehicles, were debuted by Subaru in 1965. Although still controlled by FHI in the following years, Subaru would become a joint venture of several foreign automakers, including Nissan, Renault, General Motors, and today Toyota.
Subaru still produces passenger cars today, including two-door coupes, sedans, crossovers, and SUVs, all powered only by boxer engines and have symmetrical all-wheel-drive.
